I want to be a better photographer, how do I up my game?

Honestly, I can sum it up in four words – Show Up And Shoot!

I receive regular emails, texts and messages asking for tips and tricks on becoming a better photographer. I field questions like what camera do you use, what were your settings, did you use filters, how do you get that starburst effect, I can’t find interesting subjects, etc.?  They are all great questions and there are infinite ways to answer them. Try a simple google search and you’ll see what I mean.   You’ll also notice that are more and more sites popping up that are long on promises and short on content.

While I don’t have an “end all, be all solution,” to mastering the art of photography – in fact you’ll find it is a life-long adventure – I can offer some useful tips and creative monthly content that will help you on your journey. I’ll also introduce you to fellow photographers and guest bloggers who have been instrumental in helping me up my game. My goal is to pay it forward!

Show Up and Shoot is dedicated to personal one-on-one coaching while fostering a community of photographers looking to help and learn from each other. There will be free content and some paid offerings including early or discounted access to photography tours and live workshops – after all a gal is ALWAYS accessorizing!  (In my best Tim-The- Toolman-Taylor impersonation we always need MOAR POWER – uhuhohohoh – or LENSES in this case!)

Whether photography is your dealing mechanism or your dream job, as a member  YOU will drive the content. We’ll spend a lot of time in the Digital Darkroom processing everything from landscapes to lightning, portraits to products, and more.

This is a bracketed image (3 frames – handheld – using the continuous bracket mode at 1-stop increments on a Sony a6000 mirrorless with the 18-50mm kit lens and blended/stacked using NIK HDR Efex 2.0). Bracketing and HDR processing is a topic we’ll be covering extensively. My friend Ken Zoller of Distant HoriZons Photography is technician when it comes to bracketing and will be joining us as a guest columnist in the very near future.
